Speed Goat'n'

Two weeks ago Matt, Brian, and I headed south of Casper, WY to go antelope hunting.  All three of us filled our tags.  It was a great trip!

Mossy Oak Dog Bed

I am not much for sewing, however, there is one thing that I am capable of making - dog beds.  See pictures of my newest creation, a mossy oak camo waterproof dog bed. 

Jacks the Animal

Maybe Jacks should apply for a name change - Animal.  Seriously, our unassuming black lab is a hunting machine.  You would never guess it when you see him.  He is a super sweet, cuddly and fun loving dog.  He loves everyone and everything.  The thought of him ever hurting anything is absurd.  He wouldn't harm a fly, well okay, he does love to kill flies.  But you get the idea...

This Sunday Matt and Jacks hit the woods in hopes of bagging a few Pheasants and were met with success, they got the limit!  Jacks even managed to catch a bird of his own and bring it back to Matt.  This was somewhat problematic as the bird was still alive and flapping and Matt couldn't get Jacks far enough away to kill it.  That particular bird managed to get away with its life, two other birds were not as fortunate. 

Hunting

It appears that Matt is not so good about updating our joint blog.  So, I will update it for him:

Early elk archery = FAIL
Early deer archery = FAIL
Opening day Pheasant  - FAIL
Trout fishing - 2 (cut and rainbow), no pictures to prove it...

Maybe now he will update it himself...

East of Eden - Steinbeck

Since I posted my list of book to read, I figured I would also post opinions of said books.  I recently finished East of Eden by John Steinbeck and loved it.  I have read a number of books by Steinbeck and with each one I am reminded what a great writer he is. 

I will not bore you with the details of the book but rather skip to one of the main reasons I so thoroughly enjoyed it.  I tend to be drawn to books that have good character development.  I want the people I am reading about to have meat on their bones not just exist as some wisp of an individual that I hardly know.  This book provided that for me, along with a very good story line.  I definitely recommend it.

Other books that I put into the fantastic character development category:

• Pillars of the Earth
• The Gunslinger Series

On another note, Matt left this afternoon to go elk hunting - hopefully he is a success!
